Camas Gardens Wins International Property Award

Pacifica Housing's Camas Gardens has been awarded the 2012 International Property award for Best Architecture-Multiple Residence in the Americas region.

The announcement was made at the 2012 International Property Awards banquet held in London U.K. on December 7, 2012. The award is a world-renowned mark of excellence that celebrates the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry.

"We are absolutely thrilled with this latest award as Camas Gardens is Pacifica's first purpose built supported housing complex." said Pacifica Housing executive director Karyn French. "Staff worked closely with our development and design teams and we are all very proud of the building."

Camas Gardens was designed to LEED Gold by Chow Low Hammond Architect Inc. and provides 44 units of supportive housing to those at-risk of homelessness. Located at 950 Humboldt Street, the building embraces the residents within and gestures a sense of openness to the neighbourhood.

"Humboldt Street is a mix of high end modern condominiums, colourful heritage buildings, seniors’ residences and 1970’s apartments," said project architect Paul Hammond "we sought to translate the diversity of the neighbourhood with a contemporary piece of architecture that is durable and welcoming."

Other awards won by Camas Gardens since its official opening in 2011 include the 2011 Victoria Commercial Building Design Award and the 2012 Canadian Wood Council BC Wood Design Award in the Multi Family category.
